Sounds of the Dawn Chorus
International Dawn Chorus day is the perfect excuse to get the sound recording gear out.
and so I did, with a mission in mind: the Wildlife Sound Recording Society suggested members record the Dawn Chorus and streamed them live to the world. A few issues with the iPhone meant that the broadcast part was impossible, but the chorus recording was a great success, so sit back, put on some headphones, or 'pods' and listen to the day begin in North Somerset, starting with a Tawny Owl chorus.
The whole chorus is over an hour. There is a great Owl chorus on both days, but feel free to skip - song birds begin about 20 minutes in. Enjoy!
The first day of chorus was recorded in the garden, on a Sound Devices recorder with Sennheiser microphones in an ORTF configuration
Day 2 was recorded in a remote valley, close to Bristol Airport. Normally there is too much noise here to even attempt recording, but the Covid lockdown gave a brief opportunity, albeit slightly blighted by distant traffic and 1 jet
