Birds, Wildlife and Scenery - Wild Photography holidays in the Scottish Highlands

The Highlands are beautiful in every season, with long views, fresh air, unlimited space and very few people - heaven!

Photography and wildlife in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, with tuition for those that want help with their cameras.

Any time is a magical time in the Highlands. Depending on the season, we see Red Squirrels and Deer, Osprey from April onwards, Puffins and other seabirds in the Summer. Eagles are always present and both Golden and increasingly, White-tailed In winter, we head into the hills to actively look for and photograph Mountain Hares, Ptarmigan and at the coast, we see Divers, Sea ducks of many types and sometimes Otters. The landscapes are outstanding and very different from the rest of the UK.

We visit locations across the Highlands of Scotland to see and photograph these iconic species of Birds and Wildlife and the outstanding landscapes they inhabit.

Our groups are very small (4 people max) and the pace is very relaxed to ensure that guests enjoy the experience and scenery along the way, as well as getting great pictures.

Nick is a well-know photographer and teacher - with 30 years experience as a professional photographer, an Ambassadorand trainer for OM-System (Olympus), Adobe and previously Canon / Capture One / Apple, he has proven ability and the detailed knowledge of the craft of photography and camera settings to help even advanced photographers improve technique and the presentation of their photographs.

From camera setup to image processing and colour management - everyone will take plenty of knowledge away from these trips, together with a set of beautiful pictures of birds, wildlife, and landscape.

Suitable for Photographers, Birders and anyone who loves the outdoors. Experienced photographers or just starting out; there is something in these holidays for everyone. Ideally you need a DSLR or Mirrorless camera with a lens of equivalent focal length of 500mm or more.

If you have questions about cameras, lenses or anything else related, please call or message us, our suggestions can probably save you money on unnecessary purchases too.

There is so much to see and do in this outstanding region and we always have a spare scope and binoculars.

These trips are vehicle based and not too strenuous. The Mountain Hare trip in winter is harder and necessitates up to 3 miles of walking in total, potentially including slopes with snow cover. Warm, waterproof clothes are recommended and a suggested kit list will be provided,

Yellowhammer on Gorse

Our trips are built on a passion for wildlife, birds, photography and a great deal of hard work, to ensure the best possible experience. Our guests recognise this and we've had some lovely feedback. Here is just a couple that we received recently after our 'Birds, Wildlife & Scenery' holidays in Scotland:

"First of all, sincere thanks for the big effort you made to ensure the success of last week's sojourn at Grantown-on-Spey. You really pulled out all the stops to make the trip a memorable occasion for all the participants. The Grant Arms Hotel was first class and a homely place, created by the friendly, helpful and attentive people who were on duty at reception and in the restaurant.

From a photographic point of view, the variety of subject matter was great and created challenges for everyone to work on. Your own expertise and knowledge was invaluable and I certainly enjoyed the evening chats based around the subject matter of the day."

"it was a very enjoyable experience and (I) thoroughly enjoyed every minute"

Phil from Halifax, February 2023

"Thank you Nick for a really great few days in the Cairngorms. Seeing Grouse, Mountain Hare, Snow Bunting and Crested tits was amazing, but the icing on the cake was the White tailed eagle."
"Getting away from other photographers and birders was really great, particularly liked the Red squirrel hide, Bow Fiddle Rock and the other beach"

JO February 2023

"I had a productive and instructive few days with Nick in Scotland, and I definitely think my photographic technique improved as a result. A great variety of habitats and wildlife, and great company. Highly recommended."

Adrian Fingleton, September 2023

"It was nice to have a mix of wildlife and landscape.
Nick continually strived to provide good photographic opportunities whilst being constantly aware of guests welfare."
